The Residential Market Development team is beginning to wind down from the excitement of this year's Greenbuild Conference and Expo in Boston. The event was a smash hit for our team, and we are already looking forward to Phoenix.
Greenbuild 2008 Recap; Looking to Phoenix
The first annual Green Homebuilder's Day was a rousing success at Greenbuild in Boston this year, with nearly 2,500 attendees taking part in the special Thursday event. The afternoon plenary session, led by Kevin O'Connor, and featuring builder Tedd Benson and architect Steve Keiran, served as a perfect keystone for the day, packing in nearly 1,100 people to hear their timely take on the Future of the American Home. If you weren't able to join us for Green Homebuilder's Day this year, you can view the presentation in its entirety on www.greenbuild365.org.
For the fourth year in a row, The Home Depot Foundation, The Oak Hill Fund and USGBC sponsored a two day Green Affordable Housing Summit. This year’s Summit included panel discussions on data collection, retrofit/rehab and homeownership as well as a hands on charrette session. Attendees also got a tour green affordable housing projects in Dorchester and Cambridge, MA. Thank you to all of our attendees for making this event a success! If you missed this year’s summit, presentations and more information are available here.
We are already getting excited and planning is underway for Greenbuild 2009 in Phoenix, Nov. 11-13. We are going to build on our success in Boston, and hope you will be able to join us in the desert for another great event.
First Annual LEED Residential Awards
At our Green Homebuilder’s Day closing reception, we were excited to recognize some of our LEED homebuilders with our first annual Residential Awards. The recipients were nominated by their LEED for Homes Provider for outstanding projects and overall contribution and commitment to the LEED for Homes program and green homebuilding overall.
See the sidebar for a summary of the award recipients.
Chapters Residential Advocacy, 2009 Goals
The Residential Team is putting a lot of effort into our 2009 goals for the ongoing Residential Green Building Advocacy Campaign. Our leadership on the RGBA campaign is critical to continue to grow the green homebuilding market.
The primary goal for the RGBA campaign is to build collaborative relationships between and among USGBC Chapters, LEED for Homes Providers, local Home Builder’s Associations and local or regional Green Homebuilding Programs. USGBC will be able to bring all the pertinent players in the residential market together to help clearly define the costs, benefits, and rigor of the myriad green homebuilding programs in the marketplace.
