LEED for Homes Open Call for Ideas

USGBC has just begun the process of revising and relaunching the LEED for Homes Rating System. The first step in this rigorous process of continuous improvement is to solicit feedback from our customers (you!) on how we can improve our rating system to make it more usable and rigorous, while keeping LEED for Homes at the leading edge of the green residential movement. These comments will help shape the revisions to LEED for Homes but will not be responded to individually.

LEED AP Homes Exam Launched

GBCI has begun testing candidates seeking the LEED AP Homes professional credential. The LEED AP Homes credential signifies a proficient understanding of green building basics, and a specialized knowledge of the key facets of design and construction in high-performance green homes. Additionally, LEED for Homes project teams that incorporate a LEED AP Homes are eligible to receive points under the LEED for Homes ID 1.3 credit. USGBC is currently finalizing the AP Homes study guide, which will augment USGBC's already robust slate of educational offerings to help you prepare for the AP Homes credential.

The Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership

in Sustainable Housing

Hanley Wood Business Media and EcoHome magazine, in partnership with The Hanley Foundation, created The Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing to honor individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary, lasting, and far-reaching contributions to the advancement of sustainable housing in the United States. The award winner will receive $50,000, the largest award ever established for advancing sustainable housing. The first Hanley Award will be presented at a USGBC/Hanley Award Dinner in November at the Greenbuild International Conference & Expo in Phoenix.

USGBC Testifies for GREEN Act of 2009

Last month, USGBC's Doug Gatlin, VP Market Development, testified before the House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity in support of H.R. 2336, the Green Resources for Energy Efficient Neighborhoods (GREEN) Act of 2009.  Passed by the House as part of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, the GREEN Act would promote the use of green building and energy efficiency practices in both affordable and market-rate housing units. The Act would provide new federal resources to offset up-front capital costs of improvements, as well as technical assistance and other educational resources to support owners and developers of affordable housing.
